Day 4 of the Week of Positive Blogging's theme is: If I had $30 million dollars, what would I do in 3 months to change the world?
I realize that $30 million dollars cannot possibly fund all of the world's problems. However, I also know that I can be the change that I'd like to see around me: in my world. The idea can then spread, as can the resources, with purposeful, positive attention and intention.
Since I have been blessed with abundant resources in education over the years and I recognize the value of reading and education, I would create a non-profit organization to promote literacy. My children would have a responsibility in working within it for at least a specified time as a condition that they would get the piece that I set aside for their security later on. (I admit that I'd take care of my children and their children's future with some of the money, but also want to teach them the value of work and what inspiration can do.)
My organization would teach adults to read and inspire children to learn to love to read. Literacy classes would be given in other languages, wherever possible, for people whose native language is not English. English as a Second Language classes would also be offered for people after they learned to read in their native languages.
My organization would aim to get children excited about reading, and bring books to children with limited resources. It would also help fund books in schools and libraries that have limited supplies. I would partner with local libraries and schools to strengthen the services and resources there.
Finally, I'll know that I've made a difference when I read the comments on my blog from people about how my organization helped them learn to read (and write)! Happy reading, everyone!

This is a great idea. The ability to read and write is a powerful tool that could change many people's lives.
