Helping Others

As part of Day 5 of the Week of Positive Blogging, we are supposed to write about how we have helped someone or saved someone else's life. I'm not so sure I feel very comfortable writing about the good deeds I have done in my life, so this was a difficult topic for me. I originally thought I could write about some of the volunteer work I have done through the years, but then it dawned on me that I recently had some feedback from a student that touched my heart in ways I never could have imagined.

It is in the little things of acting in service toward others that we may discover and be surprised to learn that we are having a positive impact on someone. It is when we are not aware of our impact that the feedback about it becomes so meaningful. Below is the short and sweet comment written on the back of the bookmark this student gave me. I was touched to the point of tears.

Barbara,

You've always been so positive about my accomplishments and predictive of my future ones. I want you to know that it is because you believe, that I truly believe I can rise to the occasion and accomplish great things in the future. Thank you.

That was so sweet of that student to do that. I believe that there is a special place in heaven for teachers. You guys do so much and give so much on a continuous basis. You guys are my heroes.

I also kind of don't like talking to much about things I have done for people. In the past I did because I had an ego. Yet, I think when people see examples of what we have done, it can inspire them. It also serves as a testament to the fact that we are all good people and that we can be heroes.

Reading your post here has inspired me.
